On November 1st 2012, Lieutenant Commander Abhilash Tomy left Mumbai to sail 40,000km around the world non-stop and alone. Six months later, he returned to the Mumbai harbour, after battling through storms, hunger, illness and fatigue. What he had lost in weight, he had gained in spirit. The deputy editor of 'National Geographic Traveller India' and I were fortunate to have sailed with him from Goa to Mumbai before he embarked on his adventure. These images are a series of portraits taken during this voyage for 'National Geographic Traveller India'.
