Fishermen at Diu Fort
Champak Lamba and Virchand Kanaji Barya come to fish by Diu Fort when they visit their families in Diu. Both of them have been in the Merchant Navy for over 20 years. Now, Mr. Lamba sings professionally at Gujarati weddings and religious festivals.
In 1535 the Portuguese built the Diu Fort, as part of a defense alliance with Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat, against the Mughal Emperor Humayun. Today it attracts hundreds of tourists daily, many of whom like to pose on its ramparts.
